Ancient Chinese Secret!

I think it was Linda who told me, several years ago, then Ceku reminded me recently, that ancient Chinese wisdom advises against giving someone you love a pair of shoes as a gift. The superstitious belief is that if you do, that person can run away from you. It sounds pretty silly to me as I welcome any and all shoe gifts. Don’t withhold your love. I won’t run unless there’s a really good reason. :-)

Ceku says there is a way to counteract this voodoo. The receiver should give a penny back to the shoe giver. Ceku needs to explain this more in the comments section.

Well, YOU’VE never run away from someone you loved who gave you a pair of shoes, have you?

I think that we have effectively disproven this theory given the amounts of shoes we’ve given each other over the years. :)

It wasn’t me! I’ve never heard of the shoe/running away thing - the one I know (and probably told you about) is the gift of a clock. In Chinese, “to give a clock” is song-zhong/送終, which is has the same pronunciation with “to give final goodbye,” or attending a funeral.
