Seems it never rains in Southern California. Songwriter Albert Hammond (Albert who?) was right since I rarely get to wear these Eddie Bauer duck shoes unless weather systems with funny names, like El Niño or the Pineapple Express, blow into town. I am guessing they are called duck shoes for the radial pattern on the upper that resembles the webbed feet of a duck. And like a duck, you can waddle safely over wet terrain in them.

I received these navy blue, lace-up, rubber duck rain shoes as a gift from my friend Stacey who bought herself a pair at the same time. I always think of her when I wear these. She knew that I enjoyed walking in the rain and that I lacked the proper rain shoes. A friend indeed is a friend who fills footwear needs.

As you can see in the photograph, the outsoles (bottom rubber part) of these solidly constructed rain shoes were made in South Korea. The treads do provide good traction under slippery conditions. My favorite part is the plush, wool insoles. They feel as luxurious as fuzzy slippers. The fit is roomy and generous so I need to wear thick socks. These are very comfortable even as indoor shoes. In fact, I could walk comfortably all day in them.

The rest of the shoe was made in the USA. The 1-inch rubber heel keeps me on slightly higher ground. Needless to say, they are waterproof, but only so long as the water level is ankle-high. These aren’t rain boots, after all. Water rolls right off, mud rinses right off, why can’t my car be made of this material?
