Faryl Robin ‘Charla’

farylrobinRemember the Cherokee of California platform wedges from the early 1980s? Search for them on Ebay. They were insanely popular during my formative years. Every woman had the platform wedge high heels and every girl had the 1-inch heel version her older sister had. Sears Roebuck even sold knock-offs. Spongey, cushiony heels, jagged outsoles, and the Cherokee of California logo stamped into the heel were the defining features of the ’80s classics. The heel was the color of Sara Lee pound cake and perhaps just as dense. Thank God the Cherokee heel mold didn’t go the way of Nagel prints (think Duran Duran “Rio” album cover), as the heel is perfectly recreated here in the Charla platform wedge by Faryl Robin. Instead of the Cherokee Indian logo, this updated version has a cute little robin branded into the 3-1/2 inch heel. This one’s got a suede upper with knitted yarn strap accents that criss cross. A leather lining and lightly padded footbed provide comfort for the chic bohemian chick.

THESE REMIND ME OF THE JAPANESE GOTHIC/LOLITA WEDGE PLATFORMS YOU SEE AT GOTHIC AND UNDERGROUND CLUBS. I GUESS UNDERGROUND AND MAINSTREAM ARE REALLY BLENDING TOGETHER.
