Jan Ernst Matzeliger: Inventor of the Lasting Machine

We just posted an article about an important figure in shoe history, Jan Ernst Matzeliger. He invented the lasting machine, which provided the missing link between expensive handmade shoes and affordable mass-produced shoes. His machine stepped up the production of shoes exponentially in Lynn, MA, making Lynn the queen of the shoe scene in the late 1800s.
