KangaROOS Combat Jogger

kangarooscombatIn my free time I used to think up band names and I’ve always liked Marsupial Pocket for its dual imagery — cute and gross. My imaginary band may never come to life, but at least I can have a marsupial pocket on my shoe.

Re-introducing the KangaROOS Combat Jogger. This original 1980s running shoe design is back, like a lot of other 80s styles (*cringe* — please, please just keep the stirrup pants on equestrians, thank you). The left and the right shoe each has a diagonal zippered pocket with a Velcro® flap to keep your keys or change. I bought this pair in royal/white, as shown, and went on its maiden run the other night. Ok, I didn’t actually run but I walked to meet some friends for dinner. So far so good. I had fun showing off the classic Roos with its totally awesome side pockets, totally rad suede and nylon upper, and totally cute kangaroo logo. The comfort features (cushioned insole, padded collar, fabric lining, jogging-style midsole, and rubber traction wraparound outsole) did the job and I was very happy. Then again, I only walked one block to the restaurant and later got a ride home. Isn’t that so L.A.?

The next day I made the mistake of wearing my KangaROOS to work and two people commented on their shocking blue brightness! I hate to be noticed like that at work. I guess you may not realize how well a shoe performs or fits until you’ve worn them for at least 8 continuous hours. By the end of the day, my feet were hurting and it surprised me. I was swept off my feet with the style and cuteness that I forgot about comfort. Maybe my ROOS run a bit small because my toes felt uncomfortably squished. I’m rating this pair lower on comfort but that was my fault; I should have bought the next half size up. When I met up with my family after work, my older sister said, “Hey, didn’t I have those shoes, like 20 years ago?” and she called me a copycat. Sibling rivalry persists. Boy, was I relieved to change into my Dexter bowling shoes…but I’ll save that story for another post. ;)
