A pairing up Nike and Payless will result in a higher performance women’s running shoe at lower prices - at least that’s what the market-makers who put together the deal are hoping. The shoe, which will be in the “Tailwind” running shoe collection, is going to take advantage of a proprietary honeycomb-like gel construction in the sole that allows for better impact compression while running. Although the shoes will be retailed exclusively through Payless, they still aren’t going to be at rock-bottom prices, and in fact the price tag will run about 20% higher than comparable shoes that don’t have the honeycomb technology. Still, they’re hoping that the Nike name will be enough to overcome that price increase.
