These Shoes Were Meant For Eatin’

Licorice Shoes - Andy Yoder - Shoe-n-Tell.com

Yes, these were edible. Originally exhibited at the Winkleman Gallery in 2003, these oversized Licorice Shoes by NY artist Andy Yoder remind us why “eat” rhymes with “feet”. They were apparently based on his memory of his father’s black wingtips and grandmother’s ever-present black licorice candy cache. Eating the entire pair (or even one) of the shoes was probably not attempted since they measured 32 x 31x 87 inches! I keep using the past tense, but I wonder if these edible shoes aren’t still kicking around somewhere in the back of some candy shop - waiting for a ogre with a sweet tooth.
