Zinke’s Drive-In Shoe Repair
Today I finally had the chance to take my Dexter La Femme shoes to the shoe repair shop for taps. I took them to Zinke’s Drive-In Shoe Repair in Pasadena, California for two reasons: 1) The Zinke’s neon sign is cute and 2) It’s near my favorite Japanese convenience store, Famima.
A pair of plastic taps costs $3 and comes in various sizes. You can have taps tacked onto the heel and toe part of the sole. This little investment will make your shoes last longer and keep small ‘old world’ businesses like this alive. Zinke’s was surprisingly busy! With 3 people ahead of me in line, I had to wait about 7 minutes for service, while getting the taps on then required about 1 minute of labor. I didn’t mind the wait since Zinke’s service is topnotch!
Going to Zinke’s was actually a fun errand. I was glad to see that a big condominium developer hasn’t supplanted the modest soul of Zinke’s. Its location is prime real estate on Colorado Boulevard and sits on the Tournament of Roses Parade route. Here is a picture of the shoe repair guy.
Zinke’s Drive-In Shoe Repair has two locations in Southern California:

That’s a cool store, I’ll have to check it out. The guy looks like he is about to perform some sort of martial arts move on the shoes…

He was washing black stuff off his arms and hands with some kind of lotion because he wasn’t anywhere near a sink!
